BUILDING PEOPLE POWER'S MISSION
Building People Power is a 501c3 non-profit organization that aims to create a long-term sustainable center for cultural work.
Our mission is to develop a collective care unit for organizations, entrepreneurs, and residents targeted / displaced by policing & prisons in the Temescal district in Oakland, California.
In order to meet our mission and purpose with a sustainable occupancy and business plan, we identified the “Design Scheme E” as the renovation plan to pursue. This renovation plan increases the square foot usage space from 5,000 square feet to 9,500 square feet and costs $400 a square foot (most economical).
Design Scheme E will:
Make all necessary repairs to front structure
Raise and rebuild side structure
Upgrade and electric plumbing service and HVAC throughout
Build out all spaces + simple finishes
Includes elevator as required due to upper amenities and/or singular
Uses like roof deck specialized meeting spaces, child care etc..
4400 will be a place of popular/political education, movement strategy-building, celebration and resourcing our left organizing. For this, we envision an event space that can hold 150 people. Potential users: Tenants, allies/comrades/left organizations (in line with space principles).
